Leo R Rudy was the son of Mr and Mrs George Rudy from Bellingham (formerly called Eau-Clair) in Washington and he was born in 1920. He had a brother called Wesley and a sister called Edith. He went to Eau-Clair Bellingham school and after 4 years in high school he got his final exams in 1939 at 19 years.
He then worked in a factory doing packaging, labeling, marking, bottling and various related occupations.
He joined the regular army on March 5th, 1942 at LEWIS FT WASHINGTON, for the all war time + 6 months in extra, for the discretion of the president or for some other ones, according to the law. He joined B Company of the 1st battalion of the 505th PIR of the 82nd Airborne.
Private First Class LEO R. RUDY, was a veteran of 5 big battles, he was in Europe in May, 1942 and fought in Sicily, in Italy, in Normandy, in Holland, in Belgium and in Germany.
He was killed on February 11th, 1945 in the neighborhood of a village called Schmidt (Germany).
He was temporarely buried on February 13th, 1945 in the grave n° 30-5-97 in temporary cemetery (1944-1949) – of Henri-Chapel. Nowadays he rests in a grave located on Plot: D Row: 11 Grave: 7.
He was decorated with the BRONZE STAR and with the PURPLE HEART WITH OAK LEAF CLUSTER.
He was not married and left alone his relatives, a sister Edith, his grandmother Ellen Rudy, his grandfather Jacob Rudy who lived on route 4 Eau-Clair, an uncle Walter Rudy and also his brother Wesley who was in the navy of the United States and was in Pearl Harbor
