Kenneth McDowell was born February 27, 1921 in Keene, New Hampshire.
He was the son of Lester F McDowell and Edna McDowell Robinson. The family had 2 children. Kenneth had a sister, Marion.
In 1939, he graduated from Keene High School.
Then he was employed at the Roebuck Company, Sears. He was married to Betty Harris and they had a daughter Kerry.
He entered the army in October 1942. He followed the first training at Camp Gordon, Georgia, then to Camp Hood, Texas, and finally to Camp Rucker in Alabama. He was a member of a Tank Destroyer unit. On 30 May 1944, he was sent to England.
In England, he volunteered for the paratroopers and joined E Company of the 504th PIR of the 82nd Airborne Division.
Pfc Kenneth McDowell lost his life in battle 1 January 1945 in Belgium. He is buried in Henri Chapelle American Cemetery in Belgium, Plot F, Row 8, Grave 65.
