Pvt. Talhelm was born in 1927 and died in Normandy. He was not even 18 years
old, on June 12th, 1944 during the airborne operation.
He was a Private in G Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of
the 101st Airlimit Division.
He was dropped over the DZ "D", with his company, he had to set and to give
security a bridge on the Douve river when he was mortally injured on June
8th, 1944.
He would succumb from his wounds on June 12th, 1944, leaving behind him a widow with a child.
Private Talhelm was decorated with the Purple Heart, with the French Croix
de guerre of the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Tans
her Star service and Arrowhead, of the World War II Victory Medal, the
Honorable WWII Lapel Button service. He also has his patent of Parachute, A
Fight Infantryman Badge and Presidential Distinguished Unit Emblem.
Pvt Roy U. Talhelm is buried in the American cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France. Plot C, Row 9, Grave 32.
