Sergeant Gordon E Mather   

 

Gordon E Mather was born on August 13, 1921 in Rhodesia and is deceased with the combat on December 20, 1944 during the battle of the Ardennes.

 

He was Sergeant within the company F of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment.

His father was called Arlen Raymond Mather and his mother, Faye Moore Smith.

Gordon entered to the army to Indiana and joined the airborne troops in 1943.

He fought in Normandy, he was Squad Leader. He also jumped to Holland and fought in the sector of “the Island”.

Lastly, he took part in the Battle of the Ardennes. 2nd Battalion to which Gordon belonged moved in direction of Foy/Noville. The next day, the Company F advanced towards Foy, crossing a railway line. About midday, he seemed that there was a dangerous space between the lines of the 506th and of 501st PIR.

He y have an exchange of shooting during the night and in the early morning an other company of the 506th tackled the German positions. He is during a patrol of the first section, that Sergeant Gordon was killed. A MG German opened fire on the patrol killing of the first blow the scout. Gordon was cut down when he wanted to be raised to be turned over and shout the orders.

 

Sergeant Gordon E Mather is buried with the American cemetery of Luxembourg. Plot I, Row 12, Grave 8.
