Private First Class Joseph F. Hill 

 

Joseph Fletcher Hill was born on August 10, 1916 in Chattanooga in Tennessee. He died on October 22, 1944 during the operation airborne in Holland with Dodewaard.

He was Private within the section of demolition of the Company of HQ of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne.

 

He was the son of Margaret and Ernest F. Hill. The family moved in Harriman in Tennessee. There it met his future wife, in 1935.

They moved in Ohio. His wife gave him two children, two girls.

In 43, the couple worked in Rights Powder Plant. Joseph Hill entered to the army in 1943. He joined the section of demolition of the Company of HQ of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne.

Joseph Hill died of the continuations of his wounds accepted in Holland with Dodewaard. He leaves his two old children of 6 and 9 years.

 

His body will first of all be buried in Holland. In 1948, her parents will receive a letter asking to them whether they want that the body of their son is repatriated. They decided to leave it over there. His girl was astonished some 15 years after her death. They said to him that they regretted this gesture. It took steps to make repatriated the body of its dad. He arrived there finally after 42 years of step.

The body of Joseph Hill is repatriated on April 27, 2001. And buried in Tennessee.
