Private George H Emberlin

 

George H. Emberlin was born in 15 December 1913 Huntington County, Indiana. Theses parents were Delphes Ray and Lulu McClure Emberlin.

In 1920, the family  moved to Huron County, Ohio, his father had a new wife, Georgia. His father was a boiler marker, working for a railroad.

 

George Emberlin spent 3 years in high school. He joined the County of San Diego, California and he was drafted in 28 January 1944 to Los Angeles, California.


The Private George Emberlin followed probably the basic training before volunteering for Airborne Troops. He was member of the 502nd PIR. He joined the B Company in
20 November 1944. At this time, the 101st Airborne Division which includes the 502nd PIR is quartered at Mourmelon, France, resting after his struggles in Holland.

 

But, less than 2 weeks later, the Germans launched their offensive in the Ardennes. he 101st Airborne Division was ordered to rush to Bastogne and hold the town, road intersection at all costs.

The units established a circular defense of the city and prevent it from falling into German hands.

The George Emberlin's unit, the 502nd PIR moved to Recogne.

 

Throughout the month of December 1944, the Germans tried to break the defenses of the Screaming Eagles, but in vain. Especially at the beginning of Christmas Day in the sector held by the men of the 502nd PIR defending the town of Hemroulle, many Panzers crossed the lines. But after hours of fighting, they were repulsed.

 

On 26 December, the German encirclement is completed with the arrival of the 4th Armored Division's tanks.

The Germans tried to take stillfurther the positions of the Americans in the area of the 502nd PIR and the 327th GIR.

 

The Private George H Emberlin lost life the 5 January 1945 during a patrol with several other men from his company.

The Private George H Emberlin buried at the Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Belgium at lot F, Row 15, Grave 36.
