Private First Class Harold A Baker

 

 

Harold A. Baker drafted in Passaic County, New Jersey. From March 1943 to G Company, 327th Glider Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division.

 

He was part of the 3rd Platoon, 3.0 and mortar section. He was ammunition belt, altough each mas was to turn gunner.

During Operation Neptune, the G Company and the entire 327th GIR landed by LST (not by glider) on the Utah Beach. The company was issued beyond Carentan to cut off the retreat of the Germans. Despite high losses, it achieved its mission.

 

Then, Harold Baker participated in Operation Market Garden, which began its 18 September 1944.

 

But, it was during the fighting in the Ardennes, Harold Baker lost his life. On 13 January 1945, he was the victim of a "friends shooting". One shell at a "Close Air Support" the killing.

 

The Private First Class Harold A Baker buried at the Henri-Chapelle Cemetery, Belgium at lot H, Row 15, Grave 31.
